"Why Does Academia Shun Certain Subjects? What’s on the forbidden list?"

Twelve Subjects Universities Do Not Study

When an institution rejects God it quickly rejects truth. And that’s exactly what has happened in the academic community. There are a host of subjects you are simply forbidden from studying.

You cannot talk about Jesus Christ in our major university classrooms. You cannot talk about the superiority of the Christian faith even though the very existence of the university proves it. You cannot discuss His impact on civilization. You cannot discuss the power He displays all over the earth. You cannot talk about the triumphs of His followers even though there are tens of millions of them all around you. In fact, at the secular university where I taught there were many thousands of students—and some faculty and lots of staff—who were serious Christians. You just cannot bring up their existence. But Christ is not alone in being rejected by the modern academy. Truth is hated as well.

I have said repeatedly in my videos that the academic community in the West hates the God of the Bible, hates His people, and is generally anti-Christian. There are many college professors and researchers who do good work and make a positive contribution to humanity. But usually when they deal with Christian related themes they are hostile.

Take the case of Mark Regnerus, a Professor of Sociology at the University of Texas, Austin. Regnerus recounts his ordeal in a recent article in First Things.  In 2012 he published research suggesting children in traditional heterosexual homes had better outcomes than children of homosexual couples.  The firestorm was instantaneous. Harassment began immediately. His colleagues and administrators were group emailed asking how they could tolerate his presence on the faculty. His wife was stalked on Facebook. Gutless administrators caved to the pressure. Regnerus said, he was required to turn over his university computers, hard drives, and memory sticks, and to make his email available for scrutiny—even his personal email.

Regnerus was called before an academic inquisition. He was asked to defend his work. The journal that had published his research ordered an audit of it even though they had had no problems when they published it.

Three years later in a post-tenure review he had to go through the same process again. His promotion to full professor was delayed by five years.

Professors whose research confirms the dominant narrative are lauded and rewarded—even if their conclusions are patently false.

I read Regnerus’ study when it first came out and have followed this case. It is typical of the academic community to hate truth. Augustine said all truth is God’s truth. When you hate God you hate truth. The academic community has been at war with God for more than a hundred years.

As a read Regnerus’ article I thought about a host of issues I wish university researchers would study but never will because the answers to the questions terrify the unbelievers who control our universities. Here are a dozen of them:

1.            Is the gay lifestyle destructive? What are the social science conclusions on gay suicide, gay disease?

2.            What is gay life expectancy? Does an active homosexual lifestyle reduce a man’s life on earth? If so, by how much?

3.            Are women different from men?  In what ways are they different and why is it important? There have actually been some studies on this but they come to the conclusion that, yes, men and women are different and this violates the Progressive narrative that men and women are essentially identical.  Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows is absurd.

4.            Does race have any bearing on IQ? I would love to see studies done on why men of West African descent are the fastest athletes in the history of the world. But to study this you would also need to study racial differences on other issues—like I.Q. And that is absolutely forbidden. So there are no studies on any racial differences.

5.            Can we cope with the future challenges of climate change without damaging our current economy?  All we hear from most academic departments is how destructive climate change is. There is no discussion on how the proposed solutions might be even more destructive.

6.            What ideas has Christianity given to our modern culture? Modern academics have brains filled with Christian ideas. They just won’t admit they are Christian.

7.            In what ways do we enjoy the blessings of Jesus Christ?  It is impossible for people who hate God to give glory to His Son.

8.            Are there any ways that we oppress the culture of America’s Christians?  How is this bigotry present in American society? In the university itself guilty of bias?

9.            What are the negative consequences of the sexual revolution? Are human relationships better than they were 75 years ago? If not, why not?

10.         What are the negative consequences of feminism? Has the pressure for women’s equality had fallout that harms women, families, and even men?

11.         Is the traditional family the superior way to raise children?  This was Regnerus’ study. And you saw what it got him.

12.         To what extent is black failure due to family structure and not racism? The Progressive Left still touts racism as the explanation of inner-city collapse. But what if it’s not? What if it is the collapse of the family instead?

I am sure the list could go on for quite a while. But we are reminded of Paul’s words in Romans 1:21, “thinking themselves to be wise they became fools instead.” This is a perfect description of entire university departments and disciplines. We need to return to the truth of God, His Son, and His Word.
